Frequently Asked Questions about Strategic Digital Marketing

Frequently Asked Questions

Founders asked Hoojy:

Why hire a digital marketing consultant?

Hiring a digital marketing consultant can be an affordable way to introduce experienced marketing expertise into your business without the risk or costs of a full-time salary.
Hoojy specialises in supporting start-up and early-stage growth businesses. We know that cash flow can fluctuate over time, and so our flexibility, part-time and remote approach is the ideal fit for many Founders.

What does a digital marketing consultant do?

Founders of start-up businesses bring digital marketing consultants into their business to lead the growth of the business using performance marketing. This includes, but is not limited to, digital content marketing, Search Engine Optimisation (SEO), Pay Per Click (PPC) such as Google Ads and Facebook and Instagram Ads, Affiliate marketing, Social Media Marketing, Influencer Marketing, Online PR and Website Optimisation. Hiring a team that covers all of these specialisms can be costly (especially in the early stages of business), so hiring a consultant that can push and pull the levers on all of these channels can be hugely beneficial. A digital marketing consultant can also assist with data analysis and market research to help make informed decisions that form a digital marketing strategy and a plan of action, including SMART objectives and measurement. Hoojy can roll out your marketing campaigns and design a robust strategy.

Can a marketing consultant be remote and freelance?

If there is one thing we learnt in 2020 and 2021 it is that the future of work can be, and likely will be, largely remote for office workers.

Digital marketing consultancy services can be facilitated from anywhere in the world - with a solid wifi connection.

The Global Pandemic from 2020 led to Hoojy’s Founder Michelle looking at remote, flexible ways of working that suit the startup business Founders we support.

Can you bring a freelance Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) into your business?

For some clients; Hoojy offers Michelle McClure’s services as a freelance, remote and part-time Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) in the business. This can include managing teams and projects, crafting and leading the overall digital marketing strategy, training and up-skilling early-stage marketers and working with Founders, Directors and CEOs to deliver successful marketing tactics that growth the business commercially. Talk to us today if you are looking for a Freelance CMO for your business.

What is a digital marketing agency?

Using a digital marketing agency allows you to outsource all of the digital marketing planning and implementation needed for your business to grow to an external company with years of experience and expertise. You can hire a digital marketing agency whether you have a small team in place or if you have no team to support your marketing goals. Hoojy is basically a strategic marketing freelancer, on hand for everything you need when growing the marketing of your business.

How should I measure the success of my digital marketing strategy?

An important part of any marketing plan is measurement. Digital and online marketing is geared to ensure we get the metrics (results) we set out in our SMART marketing objectives. For your business, this could be brand awareness, traffic to the website, app downloads and other conversions such as sales or optimising conversions to ensure a Cost Per Acquisition (CPA) or ROAS (Return on Ad Spend) goal is met.

At Hoojy, we are data and measurement obsessed; and once you see those important numbers going up (or down, if that's what we are after), you'll be obsessed too!

Does Hoojy offer marketing services for free?

We have been known to offer strategic marketing support on an ad hoc bases - with the odd hour here and there - in the form of free marketing consultancy support and we have one pro-bono client. The rest of the time, we feel we charge a reasonable rate for the ten+ years of experience and wide-spanning expertise that come with Hoojy.

What does ‘Hoojy’ mean?

We get asked this a lot! When Michelle was launching the business, she was trying to find a word that represented the passion and enthusiasm she brings with marketing activity.

After searching through hundreds of names from translations of the word ‘communication’ to the greek gods of communications; nothing was sticking.

So, Michelle made up a word that she thinks represents ‘happy helpful energy’ - and that word is Hoojy. Happy helpful energy is what we hope to bring to every business we work with. We hope you love it as much as we do.

How much does a marketing consultant cost/ charge per hour?

As with many consultants in business, marketing consultancy fees vary significantly - and this is usually based on the level of experience of the consultant and sometimes their geo-location (perhaps less so now that people are working more remotely).

If you are budgeting for a marketing consultant in the UK, you can expect to pay between £500 to £800 per day. If your business is not VAT registered, you might want to check if the marketing consultant is VAT registered (as the +VAT will cost you extra if you are not registered and they are).

Don't forget to have a budget for marketing spend (on Ads etc) too.

Do you pay marketing consultants by the hour or are you charged per project, or per month?

Hoojy tends to charge an hourly fee, and only invoices at the end of the month for the hours worked - we find this the most transparent way to work with Founders, business cashflows and varying budgets. Some clients prefer to pay by project and others prefer a fixed monthly fee - and that’s OK - we can be very flexible.

Do you need qualifications to be a digital marketing consultant?

Most marketing consultants will have a marketing degree or the equivalent in real life, hands-on marketing business experience. Michelle McClure has over ten years of digital strategic marketing experience alongside a Post Grad ‘DMI-Expert’ Qualification from the Digital Marketing Institute, she also has a wide variety of accreditations (which are regularly topped up) in Google Ads, Facebook Ads and Google Analytics.

The world of Digital Marketing is constantly evolving and Hoojy Founder, Michelle continues to up-skill and train to stay on the cutting edge to ensure her clients make the most of all digital marketing opportunities
